Our Newest Philanthropic Leaders Take a Dome Tour!
Posted 7 March 2012 12:00 AM by Citi
What goes on when the lights are out? Last week, Citi Performing Arts Center’s next generation of philanthropic leaders, The Metropolitans, got the opportunity to see. A hundred feet above the stage, the group of eight went behind—or rather, above—the scenes, climbing narrow ship ladders, navigating tight quarters, and clamoring across the catwalks, all for chance to take in the view from four stories above:
Taking this unusual tour of Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre, the Metropolitans were able to go beyond the gold leaf and painted murals to see the inner working of the theatre, getting down to the nitty-gritty details that come with operating an 86-year-old theatre (like how a light bulb gets changed).
Evoking the theatre’s storied past in its name, The Metropolitans is Citi Performing Arts Center’s vibrant young professionals group dedicated to preserving our historic theatres and making a difference through our arts education programs. Next up, our Metropolitans will be matched with education program participants for mentorship opportunities. Interested in joining the group? Email Hannah at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Here the Metropolitans learn how the proscenium lights are relamped from a 60 foot ship ladder
Four stories above the stage, they get a less glamorous glimpse behind the scenes.
