Maestros In the Making

WOW...The showcase that these amazing Teen Leaders presented last week was completely mind blowing!!! If you missed it, I am so sorry because it was such an unforgettable show about finding, accepting, and divulging your true self and casting away or overcoming anything preventing from doing so! The two main characters began the play hiding behind facades that they'd subconsciously been wearing. Through their journey, they helped each other, with the help the other Teen Leaders, learn their true selves.
The music, movement, poetry, dance, dialogue, and monologues that the Teen Leaders created were a direct reflection of the hard work, energy, passion, transparency, and professionalism they poured into the six weeks. I am so proud of all of them and was very glad to see the amount of family, friends and staff that came out to experience a little piece of each of these talented young leaders. I feel unbelievably blessed to have been a part of the City Spotlight Leadership Program this year! I got to meet such talented individuals, witness how much the Teen Leaders grew and matured in their crafts since I worked with them two years ago, and be a part of an extremely beautiful process and breathtaking masterpiece. Well done Teen Leaders!!!
While watching the final showcase and experiencing the emotional aftermath, I was reminded of one of my favorite quotes by Mark Twain:
"Dance like nobody's watching; love like you've never been hurt. Sing like nobody's listening; live like it's heaven on earth."
Teen Leaders, you continue to teach and inspire me! I hope you continue to practice and exemplify self-acceptance by being true to yourself and by letting nothing confine you!
With Love and Appreciation,
