About the Show

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square will visit Boston next summer on July 6 performing at the Citi Wang Theatre. The tour will feature the 360-voice world-renowned choir and 68 members of the Orchestra at Temple Square.

“There is nothing quite like hearing the Choir live in concert,” says Ron Jarrett, president of the Choir. “We love going on the road to connect with our audiences on the Eastern seaboard who will experience the pure joy music can bring to the hearts and minds of its listeners.”

The newly minted American Classical Music Hall of Fame member’s repertoire will cover everything from Bach and Broadway to American folk hymns and spirituals.

Since its first tour outside of Utah in 1893, the Choir has toured extensively across the United States and abroad. It has performed throughout Europe and in music capitals from Israel and Russia to Japan and Australia. Its travels have also included performances at the inaugurations of six U.S. presidents. A full complement of the Orchestra has traveled on tour with the Choir since 2005. The all-volunteer Choir and Orchestra usually tour every other year since all of the performers must take vacation time from their jobs and leave their families to undertake the travel.

The 360-voice choir, accompanied frequently by the 150-member orchestra, can also be heard weekly as part of the Music and the Spoken Word broadcast. This 30-minute program is the world’s longest continuing network broadcast and currently airs on over 2,000 radio, TV, cable and satellite stations worldwide. The Choir and Orchestra are active recording artists with their own recording label, Mormon Tabernacle Choir®.

About the Mormon Tabernacle Choir
For more than a century, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir has given voice to the hopes, joys, trials, and triumphs of people around the world. This 360-member chorus of men and women, all volunteers, has performed at World’s Fairs and expositions, at inaugurations of U.S. presidents, in acclaimed concert halls from Australia and Europe to Asia and the Middle East, on television broadcasts, and now on YouTube and Facebook. The choir has even been referred to as "America's Choir," as a result of their high standard of popular choral music. With their incomparable voices and their shared faith in God, they are a significant presence in the world of music, giving service through song.

About the Orchestra at Temple Square
The Orchestra at Temple Square, established in 1999, celebrates its fifteenth anniversary this year as a companion ensemble to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The Orchestra offers an opportunity for instrumental musicians to also serve as goodwill musical ambassadors for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as do Choir members.

Each week up to 85 musicians, drawn from a roster of more than 200 volunteers, provide instrumental support to the Choir in the weekly broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word. The Orchestra also performs with the Choir in the annual Christmas concert, Pioneer Day celebration and other special events. Since 2005 the orchestra has gone on biennial concert tours with the Choir across North America as well as presenting its own fall and spring symphonic concerts in the Tabernacle.
