About the Show

On March 30, 1958, Alvin Ailey led a group of young African-American modern dancers in a now-fabled performance at the 92nd Street Y in New York City that forever changed the perception of American dance. And in 1968, Celebrity Series of Boston first presented the Ailey company in what has become an annual tradition and celebration.

“...So far under Mr. Battle’s direction it has been smooth sailing for the Ailey company...” —NEW YORK TIMES

“...Mr. Battle has made a point to expand the company’s repertory...” —WALL STREET JOURNAL

“Be prepared for 2 things: a continued devotion to tradition, but also big, refreshing surprises.” —CHICAGO TRIBUNE

Celebrity Society Event
The Dance Series is sponsored by the Stephanie L. Brown Foundation, the Royal Little Family Foundation and the Cynthia and John S. Reed Foundation.
