City Spotlights Teen Leadership Council

The City Spotlights Teen Leadership Council is a school-year youth employment program that will consist of 12-15 Teen Leaders who specialize in an area of the performing arts (dance, music, or acting) to use the arts for social change. Teen Leaders will work up to 10 hours per week, with regular rehearsals on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4-6:30pm at the Boch Center. Teen Leaders will work collaboratively to create an educational performance and workshop on a social justice topic of their choice. Teen Leadership Council will tour their professional, educational performance and workshop in various Boston communities for 2-3 performances per week. Teen Leaders will deepen their facilitation and job readiness skills; engage Boston residents in meaningful dialogue about a social justice topic; and operate as change agents in their communities.

Additional school-year teen-based leadership programs include the Youth Advisory Board and the Alumni Network. The Youth Advisory Board will expand to eight youth representatives from past and current teen-based programs who will advise the Education staff during monthly board meetings on programmatic and strategic planning for youth programs. The Alumni Network serves all past and current teen participants in expanding their skills in the arts, leadership, and college/career readiness; The Alumni Network will gather once a month for special events, including master classes with teaching artists, life skills workshops, and networking opportunities.
