Interactive Readings Stories Alive
For Families, For Community Groups
Storytelling illuminates imaginative thought and transcends the creative reading process. Through picture books and illustrated storybooks like holiday favorite Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Robert McCloskey’s childhood classic, Make Way for Ducklings, the Boch Center’s Education team captures the imagination of audiences of all ages through our Interactive Readings.
The Boch Center leverages established partnerships and community connections to bring these stories to life in Boston-area neighborhoods with our professional teaching artists through innovative storytelling techniques. In the last two years, the Boch Center has visited community and local sites such as Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Boston Center for Youth and Families, Boston Public Libraries, Boys & Girls Clubs, and hospitals in the Boston area.
As an expansion of the program for 2014-2015, Interactive Readings will include a Creativity Tool Kit to leave behind at community center sites. Each kit will include a box complete with copy of the featured book, creativity curriculum, tools and supplies (linked to the book) for children (target age of K-5) to explore long after the program has ended.
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Boston Cultural Council, a local agency which is funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, administrated by the Mayor’s Office of Arts + Culture.
