Citizen Schools Arts Program

Through a longer learning day (+3 extra hours), Citizen Schools students take part in apprenticeships that reinforce their classroom learning. Citi Center is in good company—other local partners such as MIT Urban Planning, Boston Public Health Commission, Junior Achievement, and many others, are presenting apprenticeships on topics that range from weather and pollution to film-making to even sports management.
Citi Performing Arts Center’s Manager of Performance Programs, Ramona Lisa Alexander visited Orchard Gardens last week to introduce the hip hop-inspired program to the middle school students—and if their enthusiasm is any indication, we can expect 17 eager participants when the program begins this week. Through an exploration of hip hop, the youth will learn and practice oral presentation, collaboration, and leadership skills to use in their other classes and beyond. The program culminates with a special WOW! performance for family, friends, and teachers. The Citizen Schools program begins September 28th and runs 10 weeks through December.
