“You make the world better for yourself by making it better for others”
City Spotlights Summer Leader
The City Spotlights Summer Leaders are here! Thirty-one students representing 23 schools and 12 Boston neighborhoods and towns have made the theatre their home for the next 5 weeks.
Students participate in a leadership training program while learning about acting, singing, dancing and 21st century skills such as creative writing and interviewing. At the end of the program, students will share their talent with live performances throughout the city.
“Everyone has a gift, everyone should use it. I was miserable until I found mine. You have to give your joy the best you can.” – Derrick, 19, Dorchester
“I want to help others. I will put my heart on the table, show I want to see their best, try and open something up by opening myself.” – Ricky, 19, Dorchester
“I’m here to get art and social change mixed; to express how I feel not just on a piece of paper, but get a crowd listening to the message, be with a group of people sending the message: we don’t agree with the corruption. We’ll make a difference.” - Guy, 16, Hyde Park
In writing their personal bios, students expressed their dreams of becoming successful performers, and about using the arts as a way of working through personal experiences and showing others how to face their own adversities.
One student wrote, “My passion for learning with the Citi Center is fueled by my disabilities, to show everyone that you are capable of much more than you think and to never give up.”
As the weeks progress, check back to hear from these passionate and talented students about their experiences here at the Citi Center.
