Collaboration is Key

This week has been a whirlwind. Everything seems to be moving so fast. While everything is moving quickly, I think that we've started to build up a community, especially within the specialty groups. In the process of creating our pieces for the final showcase, we had to get to know each other on a deeper level to create pieces with deeper messages; utilizing each other and our experiences.
Usually for some artists it may be hard to collaborate with another artist. I get it. Even I, sometimes have difficulties working with other people on my music. It’s a personal piece where you are expressing yourself and are in a semi-vulnerable state by being open in your lyrics. It may be hard to hear from another person on what you should change, get rid of or add on. It may be hard but it is beneficial. What I learned this week was not how to add, change or get rid of but how to enhance the message of our songs. When writing a piece it is not only for yourself but for others as well. While you may feel one way about the lyrics, your lyrics may bring a different meaning to others. When collaborating with another artist, you get to combine your experiences and their experiences or moments to appeal to more people. Not only did that help your song connect with more people but it helped you connect more with your collaborators.
While going through the creative process, I made real connections with my peers and it became easier for me to be myself around them. By connecting with one another, we broke the invisible barrier of uncomfortability and made amazing work. In all, this week has been amazing and productive by the looks of last Friday. I look forward to the upcoming weeks.
