Education and Community Programs
Teens Program Manager
Javi was intrigued by theatre at an early age. Through high school, with no arts programs available at the time, she still kept her dreams to pursue theatre in college. She later graduated from Salem State University with a BA in Theatre Arts and a minor in Secondary Education and Spanish. As a college student she worked at the Education Department at the Boch Center, first as an intern and later as a Teaching Artist for a number of programs, including City Spotlights. This is where she developed her interest and skills in theatre education, programming, and advocacy through the arts. She has also worked as a Family Liaison for Somerville Public Schools and as a Teen Advocate for the Boys and Girls Club of Boston. She recently earned a Master of Education in Community Arts with a specialty in Theatre Arts from Lesley University. At Lesley she obtained an internship with True Story Theater and was able to train in Playback theatre techniques. She was also inspired to collaborate and create East Boston Playhouse, a new community theatre company in the neighborhood where she is currently managing and directing their productions.
